Glacier Bay

Glacier Bay Aboard the Alaskan Story with Alaska Yacht Charters

Exciting update:  We have just received notice that our permit has been extended another 10 years.  This unique service will be available to our clients until 2029.

After a lengthy evaluation process Alaska Yacht Charters has been awarded a permit for Glacier Bay National Park. The Alaskan Story is one of only a few yachts over 60 feet permitted to charter from June through August within the waters of the crown jewel of the our national park system.

The National Park Service made its selections based on the financial strength, experience and environmental sensitivity of the competing charter companies. We are honored to be able to offer this experience to our guests.

Glacier Bay, perhaps the most spectacular fjord complex in the world, contains 13 active, calving, tidewater glaciers. These rivers of ice are born in the Fairweather and Takhinsha mountains which surround the Bay rising 15,000 feet above sea level.

Cruising in Glacier Bay with Alaska Yacht Charters you will be able to see all of this and brown and black bears, deer, wolves, moose, humpback whales, orcas, dolphins, sea lions, seals, sea otters, mountain goats, bald eagles, puffin and a wide variety of migrating water fowl.

The summer of 2013 was the second warmest on record.  Clear skies made the Bay all the more spectacular as the Fairweather Range, up to 15,000 feet, were always visible.  May and June, the months with the clearest skies of the year and the fact that their is no hunting allowed at all in the Park resulted in the best wildlife viewing ever: Mountain Goats, brown and black bears, moose and even wolves were highlights.
